Swing
Swing, the movable front(lens) and back (film) panels (standards) of most view and monorail cameras. They allow manipulation of perspective and depth of field.

Swing the camera in a smooth evenly paced sweep so your subject remains in the same part of the view finder throughout. When you take the shot, just before the point is reached, squeeze the shutter release as you are moving to take the shot.

THE SWING: This one is challenging - it is much harder than you might think to get a good shot. When the swing is static (at either end of the travel) there is a nice shot to be had, often with a good expression or the legs flying out.

This is the bread-and-butter type of golf photograph - the golfer has completed the follow through of his swing and watches as the ball sails (hopefully) right down the fairway.

You can ignore this.
Tilting the film spreads the light over more area. In theory you might want to add more exposure as the cosine of the angle of incidence, but I've never found it to be an issue.

My Mom designs bags and she asked me to take a few photos of them so that she could put a portfolio together.
If you cant swing that, and/or you camera has a very limited number of focus points or what you want to capture does not fall on one of the points you can try this trusty method that has been used for a very long time:
1- Set lens to MANUAL ...
- Multi-angle swing and tilt (180° swing, 270° swivel)
- 460,000 dots
- Approx 100% frame coverage ...
Without tilt/swing:
Focus on the farthest [nearest] object you want to be sharp
Set 0 scale on the ring* to the reference point
Focus on the nearest [farthest] object you want to be sharp
Read the scale on the ring next to the reference mark.
If your monitor swings and tilts (right), you can steady the camera on the ground and even shoot up at flowers and other small subjects.

Panning: The technique of swinging the camera to follow movement of a subject so the image is of sharp main subject with a blurred background.

You can create the illusion of motion by panning, that Is by swinging the camera to follow a fast moving subject. The subject will be sharp but the blurred streaks of the background suggest movement.

Movements
The adjustments a view camera can make: tilt, shift, swing, rise and fall. Typically used to adjust plane of focus, distortion and perspective.

If you then set the flash to 1/2 power, but don't move in closer to the subject, it's like you're swinging the gallon bucket with only half the strength. The water will still come out, but it will only travel half as far.
You will now have about four feet of film swinging about which makes things very awkward particularly if you are not very tall. You could , if you have a clean surface to work on , just let the film drop a few inches on to that.
Stopping the flight of a jet as it flies by, or a car at high speed. Freezing the swing of the bat of a baseball player, a high diver in mid arc above the water. Again you would use a high shutter speed to freeze the movement or action.
Another hint in this regard is to reposition yourself or wait until the sun swings around, so that it is to your back. (Shooting into the sun will bleach the sky and make the subject matter appear dull and unremarkable.) ...
To make the test really worthwhile, you'll have to cover a four-stop exposure swing in each direction, so set your lens to four stops from wide open. On an Æ'/2 lens, for example, that would be Æ'/8.
There are some cameras (mostly panoramic cameras with swing lenses) that use the same “trick' as focal plane shutters, but for all exposure times. A rotating barrel with a narrow slit is exposing the frame from one side to the other.

a wetting agent that increases ink penetration into a substrate.
Once enabled, pressing the shutter button once swings the mirror out of the way. Pressing the shutter button a second time releases the shutter.
This is not an ideal solution, because tripods are generally a bit cluttered around the top, and a swinging swivel or tilt handle may just take someone's eye out if you're not careful.
Note also that now you can see one of the reasons large format camera users need tilts and swings to get adequate depth of field. With an 8x10 camera you have about 8.5 times LESS depth of field than you do with 35mm for the same image.
It can also be used for special effects; the most common being strobe like effect, following the swing of a golfer or the flapping wings of a nocturnal bird.
The photographers views the image from the rear of the camera on a ground glass screen. The camera is capable of swings, tilts, and shifts, which makes it ideal for architectural photography.
I've been carrying my camera on a shoulder with the lens pointing behind me. My arm hangs back over the camera to protect it. When needed to shoot I swing the camera to the front, place my arm through the strap a second time and get the photo.
