SYNCH CORD - Also "sync cord." An electrical cord connecting a camera to an electronic flash unit to permit synchronized flash.

 


A light sensitive trigger device used to synch strobes and flashes without an electronic synch cord. Accessory flash "slave" units are available to fire multiple flash units without multiple electrical connections to the camera.

Other common names for electrical cords to connect flash to camera are PC cord, sync cord and synch cord. One type of electrical connector on camera bodies is called a PC socket, whence the name, PC cord.

Whereas all the serious land photographers are arguing about ballheads for their tripods, u/w photographers are debating the merits of synch cords for their strobes and dome ports for the housings.

This synch cord makes the same electrical connection that the hot shoe does but lets you take the flash off camera.
External flash units are available from the camera company and third parties. What you want is a dedicated flash.
