TELE-CONVERTER - a lens mounted between a camera body and a lens (usually a telephoto lens) to increase the effective focal length of the lens. Also referred to as a "tele-extender".
Tele-Converter: A lens accessory that mounts between a camera body and normal, telephoto or telephoto zoom lenses to double (or triple) the effective focal length. A 2X tele-converter will make a 80-200 zoom lens seem like a 160-400 zoom.
Tele-converters
Many people use a tele-converter to double the focal length of a lens, say to photograph animals. It can also be used as a poor man's macro extender as it will double your focal length and double the magnification also.
A tele-converter is an option to purchasing or renting a large lens. A tele-converter will probably cost more than a rental, but only a fraction of the price of a very large lens.
