It's finally nothing else than a simple long-time exposure so you need a tripod here. The effect starts to get obvious with exposure from 1/2 second and up.

TIME EXPOSURE - An exposure with a duration of several seconds or longer, the timing of which is measured by the photographer.

Time Exposure
A comparatively long exposure made in seconds or minutes. An exposure in which the shutter stays open for as long as the photographer keeps the shutter release depressed.

Time exposure. A picture taken by leaving the lens open for a long period, usually more than one second. The camera is generally locked down with a tripod to prevent blur during the long exposure.

flash can be used for bounce flash photography, fill flash, multiple flash photography, etc. An additional advantage of TTL auto flash is that it enables you to use a wide range of aperture settings, while ensuring correct exposure.

In time exposure photography, an object that is only partially recorded on the film and therefore has a translucent, ghost-like appearance. Some people also refer to " flare " as a ghost image.

B (Bulb setting): A shutter speed setting that allows time exposures. The shutter stays open as long as the shutter release button remains depressed.

Bulb - This is a long time exposure setting - shutter stays open for as long as you keep the shutter release button held down. Time exposure mode.

Some models have a bulb setting for time exposures. The Diana F features a built-in flash, whose synchronization often does not work properly.

Time Exposure: An exposure that takes seconds or minutes to complete.
Tripod: A three-legged support that holds the camera steady.
Unipod: A one-legged support that holds the camera steady.

A technique of lighting large, dark interior. The camera, mounted on a tripod, is given a long time exposure. The photographers moves continuously around the interior, giving flash or battery powered photoflood illumination to the shadow areas.

Tips: Use time exposure and a steady tripod; dress in black, keep light and cables moving; block all daylight and pray.

With only a few exceptions, almost all astrophotography employs time exposures since both film and digital cameras can accumulate and sum light photons over long periods of time.

The flash will light up the statue for an instant, but will not affect your time exposure of the sky. That's the theory, at least. But there may be some problems depending upon your specific equipment.

Wireless remotes on EOS cameras also work well with long exposures, since one press of the remote button opens the shutter and a second press closes it. (this is analogous to the "T" or Time exposure mode used in many older cameras) ...

Seeing is believing and what was most surprising and NOT expected, was the initial reaction of myself and several of my trusted neighbors-at first glance it looks like one of those star-trail time exposures or even a meteor shower.

You normally use this mode only when the other modes can't give you the results you want. Some cameras have a bulb setting in this mode that lets you capture time exposures such as light trails at night.

Time exposures of moving lights create motion patterns, as does panning the camera with the subject. The serious photojournalist also skillfully controls depth of field.
