The Photomatix Tone Mapping plug-in can also be used on 16-bit images as an alternative to Shadow/Highlight.

If the brightest tone in your image is a midtone, then you're best to meter and expose for that as your highlight, since that will distribute the greatest range of tones across the rest of the image.

One method is the specific tone reproduction method. The second method is simpler and more feasible for shipboard use, so it is discussed in more detail in this chapter. This method is called the trigradient tone reproduction method or the 1.

To achieve a sepia tone in a home darkroom you have to use both bleach and sepia tone chemical in addition to normal chemicals. Remember that bleach has very strong fumes and can be extremely hazardous if not used in a well-ventilated area.

Tone Mapping Settings
Photomatix now offers two different Tone mapping approaches, the traditional Details Enhancer and the Tone Compressor. In 90% of the time I am using the Details enhancer since I can control the results much better.

Tone (contrast) adjustment
Adjusting the tone alters the shape of the 'S curve' used to map the linear image data captured by the sensor into the correct gamma.

Tone The degree of lightness or darkness in any given area of a print; also referred to as value. Cold tones (bluish) and warm tones (reddish) refer to the color of the image in both black-and-white and color photographs.

Tone-map the HDR image. Hit the "Tonemap the Hdr" button in the toolbar. A window will pop up with a slightly bewildering array of tone mapping algorithms and parameters.

Tone Curve
The Tone Curve control determines which curve will be used to lighten and increase the contrast of the raw file during the conversion. In addition to the default setting, conversions were done at linear contrast and strong contrast.

tone/line conversion
refer to line conversion.
tone line technique
a process that converts continuous tone images into line reproductions that resemble pen and ink drawings.

Tone Curve
Used in image editing software, a graphical representation the relationship between the input and output values for the brightness levels of pixels that can be used to adjust the contrast of the image.

Tone (subject matter). Tone can also refer to the mood of a picture.

Tone - Tone is conveyed through the use of dark and light in the photograph. Dark toned photographs use shadows and dark gray areas to convey a mood such as sadness, emptiness, etc.

Tone curves
A term for an adjustment available on certain scanners. Beginning as a 45° angle line running up to the right, this line is adjusted into a curve shape by the user to effect colour or tone correction.

Two Tone Design
Despite the options that gray shading offers, sticking to pure black and white is often the route that designers take. This preserves that striking light-dark contrast while at the same time creating a certain look.

[edit] Tone mapping
Main article: Tone mapping
One problem with HDR has always been in viewing the images. Typical computer monitors (CRTs, LCDs), prints, and other methods of displaying images only have a limited dynamic range.

Tone: Tones are changes in apparent brightness of a color. (see: )
Trap: Trapping involves the addition of dots or pixels around the edges of an object so that you donít get white or colored gaps if the image is printed slightly out of register.
