In July 2003, Nikon announced the D2H, the first of what would be four cameras from the D2 family, along with a new SB-800 flash.
TTL metering means that the amount of (flash) light is measured behind the lens. Normal daylight can be measured "off-line" (=before the exposure).
TTL works best when the strobe overpowers the ambient light level. Remember that TTL does not take into account the available light on the scene, a fact that can result in overexposure, particularly in shallow water.

TTL Auto Flash Refers to automatic flash output control through the lens (TTL). TTL Refers to through-the-lens metering, in which light levels of a scene are measured by the camera's meter through the lens. Most common in SLR cameras.
TTL -This type of viewfinder employs the same lens for focusing on the object and looking at it. Basically you look through the lens.

TTL Flash Metering For Macro Photography
TTL (through the lens) flash metering setups for macro work are very nice. However, you must be careful not to exceed the minimum flash to subject distance allowed for TTL mode with the flash unit.

With TTL flash metering the flash light and ambient light is measured through the lens so the intensity of the flash can be set. All work is done by the camera so the flash does not need any metering cells or control circuits.

TTL refers to a metering system that determines the proper exposure based on measuring the light that strikes the imaging sensor (or film-plane) after passing through the camera's lens.

TTL
Abbreviation of "through-the-lens" as referring to a metering system in which a suitable light-sensitive mechanism within the camera body measures exposure from image light passing through the lens.
A TTL type viewfinder will usually show more of the actual image, although not usually the full 100%. The image as the lens sees it, is relayed through a prism or mirror system directly up to a focus screen which can be seen through the viewfinder.
