Tungsten-Halogen Lamps Tungsten-halogen lamps have a tungsten filament inside a quartz envelope. This type of lamp does not blacken the inside of the envelope and operates at an almost constant brightness and color temperature throughout its life.

Tungsten: If your using the camera in a really warm environment, use this setting. This will cool down the image so it won't be to gold looking. If you set it in a cool toned environment, it will look too blue in the image.

Tungsten-balanced films can be used with strobe units or during midday sunlight, but the color balance will shift decidedly toward the blue end of the spectrum. At twilight, the heavy blue shift is even more pronounced.

When to use Tungsten white balance: This is one of the most extreme balance settings of them all and should only be used with tungsten light bulbs. Or at times where you purposefully want a blue tinge to your images.

Fuji Velvia for example, is a good choice for outdoor photography, but a tungsten balance film is best for indoor shooting. Similarly, Fuji Astia is excellent for portrait photography since it produces natural skin tunes.
For instance, a camera may have settings for bright sunny outdoors, cloudy outdoors, shady outdoors, tungsten, fluorescent, and flash.
