Tungsten Lighting
The 80-series filters convert tungsten light to daylight. They vary in strength from the 80A which is very strong to the 80D which is weakest.

 


Nikon's approach to tungsten lighting appears to be rather different in the D3000 (and D5000) than its higher-end DSLRs.

Most of the white balance modes do a good job, but, as usual with EOS DSLRs, images shot under domestic tungsten lighting are noticeably warm, even when using the tungsten white balance setting.

Tungsten lighting is defined at 3200 K, which is considered "warmer" in tone and shifted towards orange; daylight is defined at 5500 K, which is considered "colder" and shifted towards blue.

Although there is a choice of tungsten lighting (incandescent) or electronic flash (known as strobes by pro photographers), the most widely used for still photography is strobes.

Tungsten lighting has a reddish yellow tint to it so all photos shot under tungsten lighting will be red or orange. The Tungsten Balanced Film will compensate for the red/yellow shift of tungsten lighting will appear more normal.

The included bulbs with this kit give off the equivalent to approximately 1000 watts of tungsten lighting. However, this lighting amount is still insufficient for portrait work in a room that does not already have good light.

For example, if a daylight film is used indoors with tungsten lighting (a warm light source), the images will have a yellow cast. If the film is used under florescent lighting (a cool light source), it will have a green cast.

A color film that is color balanced to work under tungsten lighting. To use a tungsten type film type under daylight or flash, a color temperature conversion filter is needed. This film is also known as Type B film.

You can attach Wratten filter to the front of the lens to shift the colour. For example if you used a daylight film that's balanced or 5500k in tungsten lighting that's around 3400k you'd need to add a filter with a Mirad value of -112.

Most digital cameras have settings for sunlight, shade, electronic flash, fluorescent lighting and tungsten lighting.

This film is manufactured to provide lower contrast, less filtration with tungsten lighting, and it has good color reproduction characteristics.
