TWAIN
An 'acquire', or import interface, developed as a standard for communications between scanners, imaging devices, digital cameras and the computer software. TWAIN allows you to import (acquire) an image into your software.

The second method available is done using a Windows driver called TWAIN. Believe it or not, the word TWAIN is not an acronym. TWAIN compliant scanners and imaging programs work together to allow you to scan directly into your imaging program.
The disadvantage is you can't open these image files with a normal photo package without using an "acquire module" (a plug-in, typically TWAIN, which can open / process such images).

In addition to the updated CCD and electronics Kodak have also introduced a noise reduction algorithm into their "Acquire" software (TWAIN driver) which is required to open the RAW TIFF files the camera produces.
Internally, It has a 3.5" SCSI hard drive. It connects up to machines via an external SCSI interface. It appears as a non-disk SCSI device, and can be accessed by a TWAIN-based plugin for Photoshop 3.

computer command, typically under "File" menu, that allows the start of scanning software directly from the application. Acquire is only available if the software is TWAIN-compliant.
A disadvantage is that it can't be opened by image manipulating programmes without using a plug-in such as TWAIN.
