Under Exposed - A image that was not exposed to enough light. The dark areas in an underexposed image remain almost completely black.
Underwater Photography - The process of taking photographs while underwater, usually while scuba diving.

Under exposed
A condition in which too little light reaches the film, producing a thin negative, a dark trannie, or a muddy-looking print.
(see Contrast, Neg, Over exposed, Thin & Paper grade) ...

Under exposed photo
It is important that the under exposed photo has no clipped highlights, otherwise the final HDR image will also show the same clipping. Look for a good amount of head room as shown in the histogram. Over exposed photo ...

Shooting a lens test chart four stops under exposed is perhaps not something most people aspire to in their photography, but in an effort to test for shadow detail, this is exactly what I did.

Latitude - amount by which a negative (or sensor in the case of digital) may be over or under exposed without much loss of image quality.

The picture above, as you can see, is badly under exposed. The pixel distribution is bunched up down the shadow end and there are virtually no pixels with a value greater than mid-gray.

The only major roadblock is if the original scanned image or out of camera image is way over or under exposed. Digital images are no different from film images in this regard.

Standard colour negative film of 100/200 ASA , the stuff most people use, can yield a reasonable enprint (6x4) from a negative 1 stop under exposed to 3 stops over exposed.

“Don’t do' - This image is severely under exposed and out of focus. By having too much sky in the frame, the camera set focus and exposure on the sky rather than the bridge and lighthouse.

The exposure set by these auto cameras is almost spot on though some may be slightly over or under exposed.

The whole image needs more contrast and it seems generally under exposed. The almost-square cropping bothers me. I want the image to be more horizontal.

Photographers who shoot beach landscapes in automatic mode, soon become frustrated with their photographs looking too under exposed.

Even over/under exposed frames come back with fair pictures! You choose where the negatives are sent. You can get an index print, replacement film and your prints on a disk (for an extra charge, of course....)They do 2 other size prints and APS.

The rest of the photo will be either over or under exposed (too bright or too dark) but at least you will see your subject.

I checked my histogram to see if I had grossly over or under exposed. Some highlights in the center of the bloom might be blown out, which is o.k., but if the entire firework is blown out I would adjust the exposure accordingly.

But I used the 50mm lens that was on my camera, I used film with no white balance setting for the shade like digital cameras have, under exposed it, and the picture turned out lousy.

Another trick.accept to shoot under exposed to get a faster shutter release and compensate in post processing.

Let's look at a picture that seems "ruined," in this case, it seems under exposed, i.e. too dark: ...

Bracketing. Can apply to flash or exposure. It is used to create usually 3 photographs. One photo is exposed by the cameras meter automatically, one under exposed and one overexposed by a predetermined number of stops. Also "exposure bracketing".

Because photographic film is not as good at recording the huge range of brightness that our eye can deal with, some of the photo will inevitably be over or under exposed. This is where the grey grad. filter is very useful.

Take a few pictures slightly darker than the camera's light meter suggests and then a few slightly lighter and see which you like best. The camera's analysis computer has no sense of aesthetics or drama and can't tell when an over or under exposed ...

color correcting in Photoshop, more times than not, I had some great raw material to work with right out of the camera. The key was taking a few different exposures whenever possible and deleting the files that were obviously over or under exposed ...

to put your subject within the range of your flash. Also, if you're taking a group picture with the flash, everyone should be about the same distance from the flash. Otherwise, some people will appear over exposed while others will be under exposed.
