Uploading Your Photo Files Over a USB Connection
After you've connected your camera or memory card to your computer, the next step depends on your computer's operating system and settings.

 


3. A USB Connection
Look for a USB connection instead of a serial connection. Serial connections can be very slow when you start downloading the images to your computer. This can be rather painful if you have over 20 pictures or so.

Oddly, the USB connection of the 2006 Quad G5 was way slower than on the MacBook, and the Firewire 800 connection was about twice as fast as the MacBook Pro, so on the Quad G5, the Lexar Firewire 800 is almost ten times faster.

Nowadays mostly replaced with USB connection. Serial port A port on the computer (RS-232) where the wires carry the information in a serial manner - (speed is usually low but it is some kind of the lowest denominator in computer communication).

If this trend continues this could eliminate the need to integrate them into pocket hard drives with USB connections.

These little gadgets have one or more memory card slots, USB connection and a hard drive with sometimes up to 80Gb of storage, which should be enough for storing thousands of images.

Some digicams allows for a direct patch to the computer via parallel, serial or USB connection, or even use a SCSI adapter. Some even offer infrared download.

WiFi connectivity limits tangling cables, and if you want to be free from carrying a laptop around, there are units that support USB connections and PCMCIA cards.

Nikon is made of plastic, it is bigger than S10, powered by 4 AA bateries and has no USB connection. But it has manual white balance as all the CoolPix series.

A port for connecting devices (i.e. computers, cameras, scanners, printers) using a serial cable. A serial port transfers data approximately 40 times slower than a USB connection.

The tripod and the camera never moved and the camera was untouched with the change between 12-bit and 14-bit made via USB connection to a laptop running Nikon's Camera Control Pro 2 software.
