UV filters are used to reduce haziness created by ultraviolet light. A UV filter is mostly transparent to visible light, and can be left on the lens for nearly all shots. UV filters are often used for lens protection, much like clear filters.

UV Filter - This is the most important and highest priority filter. This filter is impossible to duplicate in photo editing software, because its main purpose is to protect.

UV FILTER - a clear, neutral filter that absorbs ultraviolet radiation, with no effect on visible colors. The skylight filter is a UV filter with a pale rose tinge to it.

UV Filter A filter that eliminates invisible ultraviolet light, rendering pictures with higher contrast. This filter can be left on the lens as a lens protector.

UV Filter. This is an Ultra Violet absorbing filter that helps overcome the abundance of blue in outdoor photographs. Not really necessary in digital photography as the camera's white balance system adjusts for the colour temperature of the scene.

2 - UV filters
UV filters block ultraviolet light, which can cause a bluish cast in images shot where there's a lot of UV (e.g. high altitudes).

Buy a UV filter for each lens you own. It's easier to replace a scratched lens filter than it is to replace your actual lens.

Buy a UV filter and protect your lens from scratches
Since a scratch on a camera lens will ruin every single picture you take, we highly recommend buying a clear UV filter for your camera lenses to protect them from scratches.

Use a UV filter for your lens. This will protect it from the sand and will help cut the glare from the harsh sun.

UV filter:
This is a filter used to reduce ultraviolet light exposure of the film. Ultraviolet light can cause an image to appear hazy.
Intro ...

UV filters are supposed to block UV light. So, for the newcomers to photography let's first look at what UV light is and why you would want to block it.

UV filters are pieces of clear glass that screw onto the lens, ostensibly to remove haze and UV rays (I have never been able to judge their effect). But they can also serve to protect the lens from dust, scratches and carless knocks.

UV filters on all my lenses
I tend to like my images on the warm side, so I used to keep an 81a on all my lenses, but I'm switching to plain UV filters pretty soon--with the new WB sensors on the top of the cameras the 81a just confuses them.

UV filters are unnessesary on digital cameras, also the lens has coatings that clean the lens with uv light so cutting out UV actualy makes your lens need cleaning more often.

However, UV filters have the potential to decrease image quality by increasing lens flare, adding a slight color tint or reducing contrast.

Why get a UV filter? The UV filter can improve the saturation of colors and cut the haze a little. The main function of a UV filter is to protect the front of your lens.

i put the uv filter from my old film camera on dslr and didn't like the results. i bought new filters (cheap on e-bay) and they made all the difference in the world. I don't know the reason why.

12. Use a UV filter to protect your lens.
13. Take equipment you're familiar with. Traveling isn't the time to try out new equipment if you want to be confident you'll get good results.

Use Hoya HD UV filters over everything because they are made with tougher-than-normal glass and coatings.

I use coated UV filters, mostly as protectors for the front elements of my lenses, and I like to use circular polarizer when appropriate for some of my outdoor photography. I also have a set of split neutral density filters.

An UV filter can protect your expensive lens without causing noticeable change to your image. The front of your camera lens is very susceptible to dirt and damage.

4. Make sure a UV filter is attached to each lens. The sun may be low in the sky during winter, but your lenses and camera sensor still need to be protected from direct sunlight and the light reflecting from the snow or ice.

UV filter
Some folks like to use them permanently for protection of the front element of the lens, just like in 35mm. Image degradation would be neglectible, especially considering the enlargement ratios needed in LF.

To protect your lens a skylight or UV filter can be left on permanently. They cut down haze or blueness at the beach or in the mountains.
The 81-series warm-up and Soft focus filters can be used to create romantic portraits or landscapes.

While the aforementioned ND filters are a necessity for any serious landscape artist, be cautious when considering the purchase of a UV filter. Generally these filters don't provide much impact, and can in fact reduce the ultimate image quality.

Second, if you get a UV filter to serve as lens protection try to get the best quality you can afford and keep it assiduously clean. A cheap or dirty filter will degrade the quality of your photos dramatically.

Filter for Example 18A is a transparent UV filter. It is included, but in fact the result can't be properly simulated for obvious reasons - the filter is just blocking invisible UV radiation...

A skylight filter is typically a salmon colored UV filter, to add a slight 'warm' appearance, without so much blue.

As with all images in the 1/365 Project, this was shot on an Olympus camera, specifically the E-300, with a 14-54mm lens attached and UV filter to protect the lens. I love to travel light and prefer to take only a basic amount of equipment with me.

Only sometime later did I notice that the lens held a glass filter on the front that said "dioptre +4", it was not your standard UV filter I guessed.

UV filters are intended to remove the blue cast in photographs taken at high altitudes, I'm not sure how a digital camera's CCD responds to them. Most popularly, UV and Skylight filters are used simply to protect a camera's lens from physical damage.

From time to time, I come across someone recommending the use of UV filters on every lens for protection. The theory is that they are cheap insurance to prevent the front element of the lens from get scratched.

There are three filters you might consider when shooting digital. The first one is a UV filter mostly to protect your lens from scratches. The UV filter is color less and will not have any impact on the final photo.

One of the easiest ways to boost the definition and color in your summer images is to use a UV filter. The Heliopan Digital filter blocks UV and IR rays to give you better reds and greens, improved separation between colors and overall cleaner colors.

Skylight filter
A UV filter with a pale rose tinge to it eliminate a blue colour cast caused by haze, it may be kept in place permanently to protect the lens from dust and scratching.

Most lens hoods, including my universal, will screw into your lens or your UV filter, etc. After you attached your hood, take a look through your view finder, double checking you cannot see any vignetting because of the hood.

I used a Minolta Maxxum 7 and 100-300mm lens with a UV filter. Exposure was 1/500 sec at f/6.7, using Fujichrome Provia 100 slide film.

You can purchase Vignetting filters or you can smear a thin coating of Vaseline around the edges of a UV filter. By Vignetting you create a frame in your photograph which makes your subject the center of interest.

To cut out more bluishness, use a "UV filter" - it cuts down on the bluish ultra-violet (UV) light that is more prevalent at higher altitudes. Or use a pale magenta filter like an 81A or a darker magenta filter like an 85C.

Since lens coatings are relatively fragile, one should always be careful when cleaning coated lens surfaces (like the front of the lens), so as not to scratch or smudge them. Many photographers keep a daylight or UV filter on the lens to protect its ...

UV filters absorb ultraviolet light and cut the haze when photographing landscapes or from airplanes.
Neutral density filters cut the light entering the camera so you can use slower shutter speeds or wider apertures in bright light.
