The Canon EF-M viewfinder screen.
In 1991 Canon produced the Canon EF-M for markets outside Japan. It wasn't sold as an EOS camera, but was a stripped-down EOS Rebel/1000 without the ability to autofocus.

 


Viewfinder screen - In SLR camera, this is the screen upon which a lens projects its image for composition and focusing.

MICROPRISM COLLAR - Focusing aid in a viewfinder screen composed of small glass or plastic multiple prisms. An image that is in focus appears sharp and clear; an out-of-focus image has a broken-up, shimmery appearance.

On the viewfinder screen of any AF point-and-shoot camera, you'll see a pair of brackets (or sometimes a circle). These marks delineate where the autofocus sensors are going to lock on when you press the shutter button halfway.

Minute glass or plastic structure of multiple prisms set in a viewfinder screen to act as a focusing aid. Breaks up an out-of-focus subject into a shimmer but images a focused subject clearly.

A loupe is a small, mounted magnifying glass; sometimes fitted in cameras (e.g. TLRs) to magnify the viewfinder screen as an aid to focusing. Loupes are also used to examine negatives.

Same AF system for both: 51 AF points (really?). 15 are cross sensor. Honestly, using my lovely new used F4, I prefer only one AF sensor to keep all the crap off my viewfinder screen so I can compose.

The eye point is 19mm. The viewfinder screen is fixed, which means that Canon do not supply any alternative screens. However like earlier Rebel models, it's possible that some 3rd party screens may become available.

A half-press of the shutter release will activate the cameras meter and the relative exposure difference (+/- 3 EV) will be indicated on the viewfinder meter (right of the viewfinder screen).

In the autofocusing mode, the system uses a sensor at the center of the viewfinder screen to adjust the focus automatically; therefore, in situations where there is insufficient light, the subject is strongly backlit, ...
