Wide angle Lens: A lens of a short focal length which makes subjects seem far away, allowing more of a subject or a scene to be fitted into a photo at close distance.

Wide Angle Lens: A lens with a focal length shorter that the normal lens. In 35mm photography, lenses shorter than 50mm are considered wide angle lenses.

WIDE ANGLE LENS- The normal angle of view of the human eye is approximately equivalent to a 50mm lens. That is, if you stood without moving your eye, the portion of the scene from left to right that is in your "normal" view.

Try a Wide Angle Lens - One of the techniques is using a wider angle lens. This allows you to get in close (point 3) but also fit in a lot of the pet.

Wide-angle lenses are mostly used in landscape and other types of photography where you need to include a lot of a scene. Lenses shorter than 50mm are consider wide angle.

Wide angle lenses are defined as having a focal length less than 50mm. As the focal length decreases—24mm, 16mm, 10mm, etc.—the angle of view increases. In other words, the lens is able to include more in the picture.

Wide Angle Lenses: Wide angle lenses distort perspective (actually, it is not the lens but the way that it is used that causes the distortion of perspective).

Wide angle lenses are more susceptible to the problem of vignetting than other types of lenses. For that reason filter makers often make low-profile or slimline filters for use with wide angle lenses.

A 24mm wide angle lens can create unbalanced composition very easily by taking the objects in front of the lens at close range.

Using a wide angle lens means that the camera is much closer to the subject than the subject is to the background. This exaggerates perspective and makes the background seem small and distant.

A prime wide angle lens will have much lower distortion of vertical and horizontal lines than a zoom lens and is therefore preferred for architectural photography. All of these lenses are designed for film and full-frame sensor cameras.

Short, or wide angle lenses, are anything shorter than 50mm, for 35mm format. Common focal lengths are 35mm and 28mm. Short lenses are available down to 14mm, referred to as a fisheye.

Wide angle lenses are those with focal lengths of 35 mm* and lower. The typical qualities of these lenses are a wide viewing angle, (60° to 180°) and a large depth of field.

Now, do you need wide angle lenses to take photos of homes or interiors as well as beautiful landscapes and seascapes?

A telephoto lens has a longer focal length and narrower field of view than a normal lens and have a shallower depth of field than wide angle lenses.

Wide Angle Lens: Any lens that includes more in the viewfinder than a normal lens is wide angle. Wide angle lenses often have a very high depth of field and can yield very interesting perspective shots.

Again, I recommend using a wide angle lens, say 28mm. Put your camera on manual and set the shutter speed dial to Bulb (B). This allows the shutter to remain open for as long as the cable release is locked on.

Once in a while I use a wide angle lens for portraits of children. It's a unique approach and gives a very different kind of stylistic look.

It's much easier to get very wide angle lenses for film cameras than for digital, unless you are talking about very expensive digital cameras.

A moderately wide angle lens gives a certain amount of perspective distortion, the first shot in particular makes her feet look very big in proportion to her head.

Wide angle lenses are great for group shots around a holiday table, landscapes, or whenever more surrounding subject information is desired in the shot.

Apart from these design related problems there're also distortions due to perspective which are most obivous with wide angle lenses. If you shoot an object other than on the same high it gets distorted.

If you are a landscape photographer you might want to add a really wide angle lens, which, on a budget, probably either means a 20mm f2.8 lens or something like a 20-35mm f3.5-4.5 zoom. Expect to pay $300-$500 for either one.

This means that if you mount a wide angle lens like a 14 or 17 mm on a full frame camera, it will result in a vignette at the edges of the frame.

These digital SLRs have the unfortunate limitation that you must buy a really wide angle lens to begin to get wide angle results. This is due to the small CCD size when compared to film.

Three common types of optical distortions that exist, particularly in wide angle lenses, are: Barrel distortion (where straight lines seem to bow out, as if around the sides of a barrel), Chromatic Aberration (where blue fringing is present), ...

Unlike a traditional wide angle lens, fisheye lenses are not corrected for distortion (straight lines can appear curved).

A wide angle lens -- for instance, a 24mm lens -- has a very broad field of view and is often used for landscape photography. A telephoto lens, for example, a 500mm lens, has a much longer focal length and a narrower field of view.

Your camera should have a wide angle lens starting at 28mm and can go up to 70mm or 105mm. It should also have a telephoto zoom between 70mm and 100mm and capable of reaching 300mm.

Unless you need to get a tight shot of a particular feature on the building or structure, most architectural photo pros shoot with very wide angle lenses. If using a DSLR, you want to use either a 10-20mm or 18-28mm lens.
