Xerography (or electrophotography) is a photocopying technique developed by Chester Carlson in 1938 and patented on October 6, 1942. He received U.S. Patent 2,297,691 for his invention.

Xerography is a photographic process which uses an electrically charged metal plate. On exposure to light the electrical charge is destroyed, leaving a latent image in which shadows are represented by charged areas.
Xerography and Television. - Other common phenomena, based on excitatory or inhibitory effects, show border effects reminiscent of the Sabatier border line.
