Zone focusing
is a method of focusing the lens so that the depth of field extends over a preselected range of distances.

Zone Focusing: A type of focusing system that has two or more focus settings for varying subject distance ranges, rather than a continuously adjustable focusing ring.

Multi Zone Focusing. Many digital cameras now offer multi zone focusing. The camera will automatically determine which zone (centre, left, right, upper or lower) to use to perform the auto focusing.

When the 35 mm lens above is set to f / 11 and focused at approximately 1.4 m, the DOF (a 'zone' of acceptable sharpness) extends from 1 m to 2 m.

Multi-Zone Focusing
Your camera may have this feature. It will automatically read a zone of your image on which to auto-focus, so your subject does not need to be in the center of the frame.

Fixed focus is generally only used on the cheapest cameras of any period. Box cameras are usually fixed-focus, as are the cheapest toy cameras (such as the Holga). Traditionally the next rung above fixed focus has been guess focusing (zone focusing).

Some photographers like to mess around with the Holga medium format (120) film camera. They cost $20-50, are fixed focus or zone focus, have at most 2 f-stops, fixed shutter speed, and are noted for their distortion & vignetting.

If anybody has any insight about good articles regarding this particular sport, that would be very helpful as well! The first rodeo I am going to photograph is in early January so I'm going to practice with the zone focus a lot because I think ...

They also have adjustable zone focusing areas, which can be set at 4 to 6 feet, 6 to 12 feet, and 12 feet to infinity. Most Dianas accepts 120 roll film and makes 16 exposures of about 2×2″ per roll.

If you want to do street shooting, I recommend crossing brand lines and getting the Olympus 12mm f/2 IOM12M, which has a good old-fashioned depth-of-field scale, which gives you a better shot at getting things in focus by using the zone focusing ...
