Only Acanthopanax sieboldiana, one of the 50 species of these prickly shrubs or small trees, is commonly grown. Use as a hedge in even the most difficult city conditions. It tolerates poor, dry soil, drought, smoke, dust and shade.

The name of this species is somewhat confused. It has been included under Kalopanax in line with the treatment in [11] but has also been included in Acanthopanax and considered for inclusion in Eleutherococcus[11].
