Agave americana, or Century Plant, is a unique succulent plant native to Mexico. These are large plants with loose, open, trunkless rosettes.

Description
Agave americana is a monocarpic (dies after blooming) succulent that forms a basal rosette of thick spiny grey-green leaves, often 6' long.

Very fleshy succulent forms a rosette of spiky leaves, variegated with silvery white coloring. Bears a tall flower spike from the center. Flowers are yellow to green, bell-shaped with a violet tinge.

We originally got this from a customer in Virginia who claimed it to be winter hardy near Roanoke. Our plants did survive below 10 degrees F, but damage was too severe to claim it reliable in Zone 7b.

Agave Americana is a native of Mexico and is a large succulent plant that grows well in drought conditions. The plant is tolerant of very poor soil conditions and is considered a desert plant. Agave

Century plant (Agave americana), a tough succulent with thick, linear, wickedly spined leaves forming a huge rosette, is usually blue-green, but most ornamental varieties have yellow or cream stripes as well.

The true Aloe is in flower during the greater part of the year and is not to be confounded with another plant, the Agave or American Aloe (Agave Americana), which is remarkable for the long interval between its periods of flowering.

Popular throughout Bermuda in gardens, on the roadside and in hotel properties. Many types grow here, including Agave americana, A. attenuata and A. sisalana. Known for their form, size and symmetry.

It is vital to let the cuttings dry for a few days before inserting in compost. Water very sparingly and do not cover with polythene or glass. Another propagation method is seed sowing - germination temperature is 70-80 F.
