Albizia lebbeck (शिरीà¤-) is a species of Albizia, native to tropical southern Asia, and widely cultivated and naturalised in other tropical and subtropical regions.

These deciduous trees or shrubs are closely allied to Acacia. Their graceful, feathery foliage and clusters of powderpuff-like flowers make them a lovely lawn or patio tree in warmer climates.

Albizia is a broad subtropical to tropical genus of low trees to tall shrubs with elegant feathered leaves and clusters of white, yellow to rose flower brushes.

Albizia: after Filipppo degli Albizzia, a Florentine nobleman who introduced this genus to cultivation in Tuscany. julibrissin: derived from the Persian gul-ebruschin, meaning soft silken treads, a reference to the flowers.

Drought tolerant, but not hardy. Flowers form short dense spikes. SelecTree lists no cultivars of distachya.

Albizia lebbeck, Mimosa lebbeck is a fast-growing tree, that is susceptible to wind damage. A moderate to large, deciduous tree can grow up to 100 feet high in rain forests.

3-6" wide clusters of silky pink blooms are borne in summer. This is a very fast growing tree creating a broad rounded canopy with the fine soft textured fern-like foliage.

Albizia lebbeck is occasionaly found at disturbed sites in the southern penisula and central regions of Florida. Woman's tongue is native to Asia but escaped cultivation (Wunderlin, 1998).
