Astrantias are fantastic both as cut flowers for the vase and dried flowers. For best results harvest when the top ones open up. Any sooner and the flowers wilt, and cut later they won't hold up long in the vase.

The name Astrantia, as with Asters, alludes to the blooms' star-like presentation. Compared to one decade ago or less, when Masterworts seemed all but absent in American gardens, it is becoming increasingly favored.

Herbaceous perennial which has branched heads of neat pincushion flowers surrounded by a ruff of greenish white bracts in summer.
The Astrantias have a quaint beauty of their own; they are not showy, nor particular about soil or aspect. They are easily established in woodland walks where the growth of weeds is not too rank.
