Handsome crowns of feathery fronds are typical of this genus. Delicate and lacy with arching fronds and dark red stems at maturity. Strong-growing and dependable, the Lady Ferns are great garden plants.

Athyrium filix-femina, or Lady Fern, is a graceful, cold hardy fern native to much of the Northern Hemisphere. The bright green fronds will range in size from 24-60 inches (60-150 cm) long.

Colorful, hardy fern with burgundy, silver, and green-marked fronds. Colorful accent for shade or filtered sun gardens. Contrasts well with hostas and other bold-leaved perennials.

Athyrium niponicum 'Pictum' won the 2004 Perennial Plant Association's Plant of the Year award. Athyrium niponicum var. pictum was chosen for the 2004 Great Plant Picks and the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit in 1993.
