Athyrium otophorum

Athyrium otophorum var. okanum is a hardy deciduous fern that does well in zones four through nine. It will winter fine to minus 20 degrees F., though young specimens will be tender to establish in zones four through six.

pictum and the claret-mid-ribbed Athyrium otophorum var. okanum, while the delicately fern-like woodland rue, thrives on retentive soil and light shade and looks marvelous enveloping either Hosta 'Francee' or H.

Although it varies tremendously from spores, the characteristic purple, grey, and green variegation can be standardized by dividing the clumps. Another lesser known, but no less wonderful variegated fern is Athyrium otophorum.
