Double or semi-double vermillion flowers of "Blazing Sunset" are half again as large as most hybrids of Geum quellyon (synonymous with G. chiloense).
In Seattle it is found almost only in mucky soils, sun or often shaded, along with buttercups, skunk cabbages, salmonberries, bigleaf avens and American Brooklime. Late summer and fall is the best time to find it.
The wild species, Thuja plicata becomes a very big tree, with a trunk up to 10 ft (3 m) in diameter, and reaching some 200 ft (60 m) towards the heavens.
