Begonia barkeri is a fibrous rooted begonia with erect brown, scurfy stems native to the Gomez Farias area of Tamaulipus, Mexico. Stems will reach about 2 feet (60 cm) tall with broadly ovate and pointed leaves.

Begonia belongs to Begoniaceae family. Begonia has as many as 1000 known and identified species, plus countless hundreds of hybrids of various types.

Wax Begonias can do well indoors and out with thick, succulent leaves. They can flower constantly during the summer months. If grown indoors, make sure they get plenty of bright light.

This begonia wants to survive, so it has devised several means of spread. In addition to the abundance of tiny seeds produced, the hardy begonia also produces pea-sized tubericles at the base of each leaf.

Begonias are native to India and other tropical countries but are used extensively across the United States.

Begonia is one of the largest genera, with over 1500 species. These herbaceous plants or subshrubs occur naturally in semi-tropical and tropical regions around the world. Begonias are grown in gardens for their flowers or foliage.

Wax begonia is native to Brazil. This plant has been popular in gardens since the Victorian era.
