Thank-you in advance! We just purchased a Bird of Paradise & need to know where to plant as well as feeding. It has a flower and is assumed to be an outdoor plant.

Bird of Paradise Bush, Paradise Poinciana
Popular in tropical climates, their loose clusters of yellow, orange and red flowers attract hummingbirds. Flowers are followed by flat seedpods.

Mexican Bird of Paradise is a small tree native to Texas and Mexico with bright yellow fragrant flowers from spring to fall. The foliage is fine textured, similar to Mimosa spp. and is light green in color, the foliage is somewhat coarser than C.

The yellow variety is often called yellow bird of paradise.
The fruits are legumes, 3 - 4" long; when ripe they split open and release the brown bean.

They are bold and beautiful with a touch of the exotic. I am taken back to when I lived in Hawaii. I can visualize a crocosmia looking right at home next to a Bird of Paradise shrub or under a coconut tree.

It's used as a tall shrub in the tropical landscape and is also grown as a field crop to produce cut flowers for export. Heliconias belong to their own plant family but are most closely related to bird of paradise and banana.
