The Japanese Black Pine's habitat is the Northeast Asian Deciduous Forest. The countries that are in this biome are Northeast China and North Korea.

General Information: An excellent, small, irregularly-shaped Pine, the size and shape of Japanese Black Pine is variable reaching a height of 25 feet and a spread of 20 to 35 feet.

The many forms and types of pines can be found in northern temperate zones and on mountains in the tropics. Some grow rapidly, others slowly. Some have silvery foliage, others are dark green.

As the name implies, Austrian black pines are native to Europe. They're widely distributed through the mountains of southern Europe and Asia Minor.

Japanese Black Pine PI-nus thun-ber-jee-A-na
Conifer, evergreen tree, 20-80 ft (6-24 m), irregular but more or less pyramidal in youth, with age spreading and often with pendulous branches. Black-gray, furrowed into irregular scales.

Japanese black pine assumes massive proportions with age, often assuming attractively irregular forms.
Description
Japanese black pine is a distinctive and picturesque evergreen with an open, irregular structure.

Japanese Black Pine is a good evergreen for a windbreak and Juniperus horizontalis on the ground. Also English Ivy, Virginia Creeper and Matrimony-vine.

Jeffreyi (Black Pine) is now supposed to be a variety, also scopularia, but it does not grow quite so tall as the others. This P. Jeffreyi is found 1,500 feet high on the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains, this answering for its hardiness.

Experience has shown that white pines have grown much more quickly after a graft; that is, with the aid of a different root. That is why in Japan nearly all white pines are grafted on to black pines.
