Blue Stars - Upright perennial growing to 2' tall w/2 1/2-3' stalks of blue flwrs spring-summer. Full sun/Part shade. Moderate water needs. Hardy to 20 F.
Aristea major ...

Blue stars (Aristea ecklonii) has escaped cultivation in Australia, and is an emerging weed of roadsides, waterways (i.e. riparian vegetation), disturbed bushland and open woodlands near urban areas (particularly around Melbourne and Sydney).

All blue stars can be grown from seed or from cuttings. Except for very young plants, division is my least-preferred method of propagation. In time, blue stars develop a deep, nearly woody root mass.

Description:
Blue Stars (also known as Blue Dogbane or Willow Amsonia) is a late Spring flowering perennial that is clump-forming, but will readily self-sow and potentially form a colony.

Blue Stars [English]: Chamaescilla corymbosa
Blue Steel Hosta [English]: Hosta 'Blue Steel'
Blue Stem Beardtongue [English]: Keckiella ternata
Blue Stem Grass [English]: Andropogon virginicus var. glaucus 'Silver Beauty' ...

While we are discussing natives, one of my favorite groups are the Amsonia or blue stars. For strange, you can't get much better than the vertically challenged Amsonia ciliata v. filifera 'Georgia Pancake'.

#885 Aristea ecklonii
Common Names: blue flies, blue stars, blue eyed iris, blue corn-lily
Family: Iridaceae (iris Family)

Regardless of its origin, the 2' wide mound of narrow dark green foliage is topped in early spring with large clusters of very dark lavender-blue flowers....much more vivid than other blue stars.
