Broccoli is a member of the Brassica family. Other brassicas include cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts, rutabagas, turnips, and radishes.

Broccoli
A vegetable consisting of dark green clusters of buds, known as florets, which grow on branching arms that connect to a thick leafy stalk. Broccoli is harvested before the buds begin to blossom.

Broccoli and cauliflower are two derivatives of cabbage, both selected for their edible, immature flower heads. Broccoli is grown for the clustered green flower buds that are picked before they open and eaten raw or cooked.

'Spring Raab' generally matures in 45 days. It is an heirloom variety with tender buds and stems. Can be planted from early spring to late-summer. 1 inch flower bud clusters and small leaves.

Broccoli - This is one of the most satisfactory of Fall crops, as it will stand a stiff freeze, and come back to life. Plants can be set in the garden any time from early Spring to late July, and still he producing edible buds.

Broccoli, from the Italian plural of broccolo, refers to "the flowering top of a cabbage," is a plant of the cabbage family Brassicaceae.

Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbages, kale, leeks and parsnips are hardy vegetables and will stand through the winter. Leafy crops such as chard, parsley and rocket should also over-winter with a little protection.

Broccoli and cauliflower are at their best when eaten raw or cooked as little as possible.

Unlike broccoli, cauliflower produces only one head per plant, called the "curd.

Cabbage, Broccoli, Collards and Cauliflower, plus the less-often-grown Kohlrabi, Mustard Greens, Chinese Cabbage and Turnips, all belong to this family. All are cool-weather vegetables, rich in vitamins A and C and a good source of fiber.
