Calceolaria, sometimes called the "Pocket Book Plant", produces balloon like flowers. Most plants are grown from seed. Plants should be kept in bright light, but out of direct sun.

Calceolaria arachnoidea (Capachito Morado)
30cm Capachito Morado is a showy perennial with a dense basal rosette of narrow, white woolly leaves and an upright stalk topped by purple lady's slipper like flowers.

Calceolaria, sometimes called the "Pocket Book Plant", produces balloon like flowers. Most plants are grown from seed. Plants should be kept in bright light, but out of direct sun. Temperatures should be no warmer than 65 degrees F.

Botanical Name: Calceolaria herbeohybrida
Pocketbook Plant gets its name from the puffy, brightly colored flowers that look like pouches or slippers. Other common names for this unusual-looking plant are Slipper Flower and Slipperwort.

There are other species sold as houseplants, but Calceolaria biflora "Goldcap" lives outdoors. It is hardy at minus ten to zero degrees F., found even in the subantarctic regions.

Calceolaria John Innes - A remarkably fine plant raised at the John Innes Horticultural Institute, Surrey, the result of crossing C. plantaginea and C. polyrrhiza. In habit it closely resembles C.

Calceolarias thrive best in a cool atmosphere with plenty of ventilation. Place them in a west or south facing window. Calceolaria prefers to be a little on the dry side, and be sure to water from the bottom.

Calceolariaceae are herbs or shrubs usually with opposite, serrate leaves that may be joined at the base.

Some kinds, such as geraniums (zonal and ivy-leaved pelargoniums), calceolarias, gazanias, fuchsias, marguerites, and penstemons, are increased by cuttings. These must be prepared from firm, non-flowering shoots. They should be 1 to 4 in.

Compound definite inflorescences are by no means common, but in Streptocarpus polyanthus and in several calceolarias we probably have examples. Here there are scorpioid cymes of pairs of flowers, each pair consisting of an older and a younger flower.
