While common sweetshrub (Calycanthus floridus) may not be on the tip of everyone's tongue, it certainly should catch the attention of most gardeners as an excellent deciduous shrub.
Asian Chimonanthus are close to Calycanthus, flowering from mid winter until early spring with small yellowish open star-flowers on nude branches. Very attractive dark glossy foliage.
