Bamboo Cane
Some of these hardy, woody, bamboo grasses from North America and Asia grow to 30 feet tall. Others are low-growing ground covers. Growth is rapid the second year after planting.
Cane blight is a disease of raspberries caused by the fungus Leptosphaeria coniothyrium, which infects the developing canes through wounds, causing them to die back. The disease is often associated with attacks by raspberry cane midge.

Switch cane is one of three native species of Arundinaria. It might be encountered as dense stands in low-lying, shady, moist to wet areas. It is easily confused with non-native bamboos. Switch cane rarely flowers.

Dieffenbachia amoena, or Dumb Cane, is a plant widely used for interiorscapes and houseplants.
It is called dumb cane because if its sap gets into your mouth, it can cause painful temporary loss of speech. It can also irritate the skin, so use caution when pruning and keep plants away from animals and children.

It's common name comes only from it's resemblance to bamboo due to the fine lacy foliage, and the growth pattern of the plant, which is cane like.
DESCRIPTION: Burma reed, also known as silk reed, cane grass, and false reed, is a tall, perennial, large-plumed grass (Poaceae family) that grows in clumps in sunny upland areas.
Firm the soil over the roots and cover each cane an inch or two deeper than it was previously grown. Water some more. Cut each cane back to an 8-inch handle to give the roots a chance to get established.
It is softer than cane sugar and does not crystallize as well as the latter. There is a treacle principle in it, but this renders it all the more nutritious.

About twenty years ago I bought one small tropical dwarf cane, Dracaena deremensis "Janet Craig Compacta," for a salamander & frog vivarium. It flourished to the highest degree.
The flower stalks grow up to 5" tall (depending on the species), and curve downward 90 º to 180º (except in Cyclamen alpinum) at the tip (like a candy cane) so that the flower faces downwards.
The reason for this hard pruning is to encourage as many upright cane-like stems as possible. The new stems have the brightly coloured bark, whilst the older stems are nowhere near as spectacular. The stems will re-grow to 1m - 1.
Dragon Wings begonia is a 2- to 3-foot tall, cane-forming begonia with deep, glossy-green, 5-inch long leaves and drooping clusters of flowers. Because the hybrid is sterile, it just keeps blooming from spring till frost.

Scouringrush sends up long, tapering, cane-like shoots 1-6 feet tall. These stiff, evergreen shoots terminate in spore-producing cones. Leaves are reduced to teeth-like scales arranged in whorls around the joints of the stems (fig. 29B).
