Bermuda has three seasons, but some put in a fourth crop for potatoes, okra, tomatoes, watermelon and cantaloupes.
These include honey dew melons, cantaloupes, musk melons, and other sweet melons. There are many types of melons available to the home gardener, each promising sweet, delectable fruit.
Persian, honeydew, casaba, muskmelon, and cantaloupe. The true cantaloupe (var. cantalupensis), introduced to Cantalupo, Italy, from Armenia, is a hard-shelled or rock melon.
Their coarse-barked, candelabrum trunks sport a light garb of long gray needles in bundles of three and large, squat, cantaloupe-sized cones, dark against the branches.

In addition to the familiar cantaloupe and muskmelon, a number of more exotic melons are available to home gardeners.

Muskmelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, and cucumbers belong to Cucumis. Other family members include watermelons (Citrullus), chayote (Sechium) and the Luffa vegetable sponge.
It is about the size of a cantaloupe and is highly prized for its creamy exotic tasting pulp. The pulp occupies approximately one-third of the fruit and is used throughout Brazil and Peru to make fresh juice, ice cream, jam and tarts.

The gas speeds up the ripening process so broccoli should not be stored with ethylene producing fruits and vegetables, such as, apples, apricots, bananas, cantaloupe, kiwifruit, mango, peaches, pears, tomato, and white sapote.
A properly ripened papaya is juicy, sweetish and somewhat like a cantaloupe in flavor, although musky in some types. The fruit (and leaves) contain papain which helps digestion and is used to tenderize meat.
Bark: Thin, light brown to gray, resembles the skin of a cantaloupe when young, later turning darker gray and rough.
