The Carnivorous Plant Genus Sarracenia
The genus sarracenia is composed of nine species, each of distinct form and, for the most part, localized within a given area along the Atlantic seaboard.

Carnivorous plants are certainly some of the coolest and most unique plants in the plant kingdom. Plant carnivory as opposed to carnivore herbivory is extremely rare.

Carnivorous plant. Grows best with tropical conditions and uniformly damp, but not waterlogged soils.
Dry summer dormancy in its native habitat, but this dry period does not appear to be required in cultivation.

Carnivorous plants are plants which obtain nutrients by trapping and digesting insects or other creatures.
Glossary : Deciduous
Deciduous refers to those plants that lose their leaves or needles at the end of the growing season.

I tried carnivorous plants previously as houseplants but they failed. They're really best outdoors, & are a lot hardier in the garden than in the house. The drawback is they're fragile in the presence of animals.

This is a carnivorous plant. Insects become trapped in the pitcher-like leaves. The insects are then digested, and the nutrients used by the plants.

Thus the native habitat of Venus flytrap and other carnivorous plants is actually deficient in several elements that are essential to plant survival.

Root systems of carnivorous plants tend to be weak and poorly developed. Since the roots function almost entirely as support, the highly acidic bog water doesn't seem to bother them.

The bogs are generally poor in nutrients, which is why this carnivorous plant needs to derive its nutrients from other sources. In this case the other sources are insects.

These annual to perennial carnivorous plants in the family of Byblidaceae have a similar habit to several Sundew species (Drosera spp.) with long narrow leaves finely covered with many brilliant, sticky sundew drops on an upright solitary, ...

The Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea muscipula) is the most well known species of carnivorous plants.
These insectivorous plants lure their prey using a sweet smelling nectar.

Unlike other carnivorous plants that have a passive trap this one actually moves. It rapidly closes the leaf as soon as an insect, or anything else, touches any of the three sensitive hairs on the surface of the leaf.

Although this carnivorous plant is a common inhabitant of acidic bogs, it also is found in fens. The highly modified leaves are covered with downwardpointing hairs on the inside which keep insects from escaping.

Drosophyllaceae are subwoody carnivorous plants that may be recognised by their long, abaxially coiled leaves that have sticky, glandular hairs in long lines on their abaxial surfaces; these hairs are not sensitive.

The Venus flytrap is a small carnivorous plant from North Carolina, in the southeastern United States. The flytrap has hinged, jaw-like leaves that capture and "eat" insects.

Small insects are trapped on their leaf surfaces with mucilage secreted by microscopic glands. Since they absorb the insect nutrients, they are considered to be carnivorous! They do well in terrariums with other carnivorous plants such as Dionaeas ...
