Deciduous shrub, 6-9 ft (1.8-2.7 m), greater spread, dense, bushy, rounded, or broad rounded of regular outline (straggly in the wild).

The 'Carolina Allspice,' or Sweet Bush (Calycanthis foridus, Lindl), is a shrub 6 to 8 feet high, which inhabits the low, shady woods along the mountains of Georgia and North Carolina and in Tennessee.
