Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus)
The many kinds of Cherry trees and shrubs are favorites in American yards. While some types of these familiar trees are grown primarily for their fruit, many others are valued for their ornamental qualities.

Sour cherries, Prunus cerasus, are typically hardy to zone 3; sweet cherries, Prunus avium, perform inconsistently above zone 6, and are easily frost-damaged. Sour cherries also require longer periods of cold in winter, in order to set fruit.

Cherry Laurel or English Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus)
Mature Height/Spread: This evergreen, broadleaf shrub can grow to 20 feet but is generally kept smaller in the home landscape. The spread is 6 to 10 feet.

The leaves of the Cherry-laurel (Prunus lauro-cerasus) owe their activity to the prussic acid they contain.
