Here in Zone 6 (SE PA), I like Ceratostigma plumbaginoides, a.k.a. Plumbago or Leadwort.

Zone 5. An excellent plant with a brilliant, true blue flower colour blooming from August through October. (9 cm - 3 1/2") The foliage turns maroon as the cool fall weather arrives.

Common names include plumbago and leadwort (names which are also shared by the genus Ceratostigma).

The brilliant yellows and reds of fall gardens may be tempered by cool blues provided by shrubs such as caryopteris and ceratostigma.

The potential embarrassment of mispronouncing the requisite Latin is worse than not knowing it at all. While gooseneck loosestrife is manageable, Lysimachia clethroides is not. Hardy plumbago is one thing, Ceratostigma plumbaginoides quite another.
