Now here's a gift that is right to the point....ouch. Sorry for that one! Christmas Cactus are so named because they are a flower that blooms a tiny red flower right around the Christmas season.

False Christmas Cactus
Scientific Name: Schlumbergera truncata (Haw.) Moran
Synonym: Epiphyllum bridgesii, Epiphyllum ruckeri, Zygocactus delicatus, Schlumbergera truncata var.

The true Christmas cactus, Schlumbergera x buckleyi, differs from S. truncata. The S. Truncata has an asymmetrical flower and wings on its ovary.

Schlumbergera bridgessii or Christmas Cactus, a native of Brazil, is an epiphytic cactus with flat-jointed stems. The arching stems reach about 1 foot in height, which makes it a great hanging basket subject.

Zygocactus Schlumbergera truncata is known in the Southern Hemisphere as the Christmas Cactus. It flowers in pinks and reds, requires bright but not strong sunlight, medium watering with good drainage.
