Shrubby cinquefoil is a bushy deciduous shrub growing to 3 feet tall and 5 feet wide that has been bred to include a multitude of cultivars that bear flowers in a large array of colors including white, yellow, pink, peach, orange, and red.

The many Cinquefoils are in some cases difficult to distinguish.
Medical Uses: As with most members of the rose family the Cinquefoils are astringent so can help close wounds and treat diarrhea.

About 500 species of mostly perennial herbs (also annual and biennial forms) and shrubs. Leaves alternate, compound (palmate and pinnate or tifoliate), leaflet margins often toothed.

Shrubby Cinquefoil is the longest flowering of mountain shrubs in the Four Corners area, usually bearing flowers for three months. In the wild it grows to about three feet tall and wide.

"Sunset" Potentilla, aka Cinquefoil Bush
The Potenilla cultivar sometimes sold as "Red Sunset" was actually named "Sunset.

This Fragaria was developed in 1966 by crossing the garden strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) with marsh cinquefoil (Potentilla palustris) which has red-purple flowers.

Description:
Bush Cinquefoil is impressive when in full bloom in early June, but can soon develop a ratty appearance on mature plants, which are densely shrubby with persistent fruit capsules. 'Abbotswood' has white flowers.

The 'Pink Panda' Strawberry, also known as 'Frel', is a patented hybrid strawberry that is the result of crossing the Marsh Cinquefoil, Comarum palustre, and the Beach Strawberry, followed by backcrossing to strawberry.
