Clary Sage
Much-loved aromatic plants, the perennial and shrubby Sages are grown for their huge variety of flower colors and their long bloom. Colors include bright red, true blue, white, orange, purple, lavender and pink.

 


Clary sage is a bushy, compact, highly branched annual that grows to 16" tall and 9" wide. Leaves are oblong to ovate, pubescent, medium green, to 2" long.

This Clary was thought to be more efficacious to the eye than the Garden variety.

Blends well with all citrus oils, clary sage, rose, sandalwood. Hardy to Zone 8. To encourage lateral branching and greater flower production, nip off the ends of canes that become too long.

Clary (S. sclarea), native from the Mediterranean region to Iran, is a biennial sage whose seeds were once used to “clear the eye"; it has bluish or pinkish flowers, and its oil is sometimes used similarly to that of the common sage.

that is marsh mallow and common mallow, carrots, parsnips, orache, amaranth, turnip, cabbage, onions (?), chives, leeks, radish, shallots, onions, garlic, madder, fuller's teasel (?), broad bean, peas, coriander, chervil, caper spurge, clary sage.

Look for the Claryssa strain. They can be used fresh or dried. Because they branch so profusely, you'll need only three plants. Zinnias. Grow State Fair or California Giant strains, or some other variety that's 30 inches tall.
