beans come from several species of the genus Coffea, bushes and trees of the Old World tropics; many are African. The medicine comes from the bark of evergreen trees ( ) native to the Andes.

Coffee beans (Coffea) contain the purine-type alkaloid caffeine, which prolongs the useful life of many hormones, but especially adrenaline. This gives coffee its stimulant effect.

This attacks two species of scale insect, soft scale (Coccus hesperidum) and hemisperical scale (Saisettia coffeae).
The parasitic wasp is available from some mail order suppliers of biological controls.
