Cornelian Cherry or Dogwood
The Cornelian cherry is actually a type of dogwood. Cornus mas, or Cornelian cherry, provides tart red fruits similar to the cherry.

Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas) is not a cherry at all but a kind of dogwood. Though we seldom see it in Arkansas gardens, it grows well here and makes a good show because the competition is scarce in February.

Small tree with arching branches that can reach 20-25' tall. Known for its frothy display of yellow flowers presented on bare twigs in early spring, and bright red cherry-like drupes in summer.

Cornelian Cherry rarely reaches sufficient height to be an effective shade tree, but it is useful as a small garden specimen, patio tree or landscape accent tree.

'Cornelia' Roses (Introduced - 1925) Northern winters will not bother this rose, nor will southern summers.

Cornelian cherries are small deciduous trees or large shrubs, reaching about 20 feet. In winter they display two-toned exfoliating bark. Before the forsythias bloom, the plants cover themselves in a haze of small bright yellow flowers.
