Phlox adsurgens is a prostrate, stem-rooting, semi-evergreen perennial with stalkless, rounded, light to medium green leaves.

A dense, vigorous, mat-forming ground cover, creeping phlox has short flower stems from 3 to 12 inches tall. The flowers can be pale lavender-blue, rose-pink, medium violet, or white, with unnotched petals and a yellow center.

There are several types, the most common of which are spring-blooming creeping phlox and summer-blooming tall phlox.

Although the various groups of tulips make distinctive displays in themselves, they are even more pleasing when combined with such spring-flowering ground covers as creeping phlox, golden-tuft alyssum, arabis and a host of other rock plants.

It is ideally suited for planting in groundcover beds, in the rock garden or amongst spring blooming plants such as creeping phlox or dianthus. The foliage will persist through the winter and die down during the spring.
