Orange Day Lily,
or Tawny Daylily
On a dry rocky slope, the Orange or Tawny Daylily (Hemerocallis fulva) has been naturalized for many years. Even though the area is also very shady, the daylilies managed most years to bloom at least a little.

Some of my day lily buds are not opening, they seem to look damp and partly translucent. I have had gall midge and have been frantrically picking off the buds. This seems to be something differant. Any ideas on what it maybe?. I hope it's not a virus.

Day lily care and cultivation
A spring application of manure, compost, or a good complete fertilizer such as 5-10-10 or 5-10-5 is very beneficial. A low nitrogen fertilizer (3-12-12) should be applied in the late summer or early fall.

The London apothecary John Parkinson, described the species as ‘the gold-red Day lily’, in his book Paradisus in Sole (1629).
