There are about 60 species of small flowering shrubs in the genus Deutzia. They are native to Asia and Central America. Most Deutzia are deciduous, but a few subtropical species are evergreen.

Deciduous shrub, 2-4 ft (0.6-1.2 m), low broad mound. Leaves opposite, oblong-lanceolate, 2.5-7.5 cm x 1-1.6 cm, long accuminate, unequally serrate, flat deep green above.
Bhutan Deutzia is a deciduous shrub, distinguished by its pinkish-purple flowers with elliptic petals 1-1.2 cm long. Flower are borne in rather dense clusters in leaf axils.
