Dianthus 'Fusilier' is an ideal plant for a sunny rock garden. It has narrow, grey-green leaves. Deep red-pink flowers are produced during summer.

Growing Dianthus from Seeds
New plants can be started from seeds sown in spring or early summer directly into the garden. Sow the seeds 1/8 inch deep in light well-drained soil in a sunny location in the garden.

Dianthus are grown from seed. They can also be propagated by cuttings.
They can be directly seeded into your flower garden, or started indoors for transplanting later. Dianthus prefers warm weather.

The name Dianthus was given by Linneaus in 1737. It means Deity Flower. The Red signifies the god Ares.

Like most dianthus, Bouquet Purple has its best bloom display in late spring, usually in May.

Dianthus is great for borders, beds, containers and window boxes. Double or single, these are cluster flowered plant that provide a bright burst of color.

"Stenos" is Greek for "narrow", referring to the leaves. "Armerioides" is Latin for "similar to Armeria", probably a genus of Dianthus flowers.
