Dietes - Rather tall, graceful Iris-like plants. One kind only is known to be hardy in England (Huttoni), which grows freely in my garden in ordinary soil at the foot of a west wall. S. Africa.
Dietes iridioides (African iris, Cape iris, Fortnight lily, Morea iris, Wild iris; syn. Dietes vegeta N.E.Br., Moraea iridioides L., Moraea vegeta Mill.) is an ornamental plant in the Iridaceae family.
Dietes grandiflora 'Sunstripe' (Yellow Striped Fortnight Lily) - This variegated form has leaves that are a medium green with bright yellow stripes throughout the leaves (not just on the margin as with the white variegated clone) .

The family also includes plants that look very much like irises, yet are classified under other names. Such plants are Moraea from South Africa, Tigridia from South America, and Dietes, a real iris look-alike, also from South Africa.
They can also be combined with shrubs and perennials like Daylilies, Rudbeckia, Coreopsis, Agapanthus, Bearded Irises, and indigenous Irises, Dietes grandiflora.
