Dill is one of the easiest herbs to grow. The feathery leaves and yellow flowers are pretty in the garden and in floral arrangements. And dill is infinitely useful in the kitchen.

Growing Instructions:Sow direct where it is to grow as dill has a long taproot and dislikes being transplanted.

In cooking, use whole or ground seeds and dry or fresh fern-like leaves. Unlike many other long-lived herbs, plants must be replaced yearly. The flattened, yarrow-like flowers attract beneficial insects such as hoverflies. Sow in place.

This is a pretty feathery herb which has attractive bluish green foliage and yellow heads of flowers. It looks like a small fennel, and indeed will cross fertilise this plant.

Dill, also called "Dill Weed", is native to southwest Asia. It picked up roots, and travelled the world with merchants ages ago. Like many herbs, it 's popularity in the kitchen has caused it to migrate all over the the world.

Dill is a hardy annual, a native of the Mediterranean region and Southern Russia. It grows wild among the corn in Spain and Portugal and upon the coast of Italy, but rarely occurs as a cornfield weed in Northern Europe.

A close relative to fennel, dill weed finds many uses-from pickling to using fresh for fish, salads, sauces and medicinally. This fast growing annual is one of my favorite herbs for the kitchen.

Description
Dill, a popular annual, has bluish-green stems that contrast with finely divided, yellow-green, plume-like leaves and yellowish flowers. Dill grows about 2 to 3 feet high.

Dill has a very long history of herbal use going back more than 2,000 years. The seeds are a common and very effective household remedy for a wide range of digestive problems.

Dill is, of course, the principal flavoring in dill pickles, but it also is used to add zest to potato salads, egg salads and sauerkraut, and to flavor vinegars and sauces for fish. Dill goes well with cabbage and other boiled vegetables.

Tomatoes grow better with carrots, but may stunt the carrots' growth. Beans (which are bad for tomatoes) provide the nitrogen carrots need more than some other vegetables. Aromatic companion plants repel carrot fly.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is an edible, perrenial herb which resembles dill. It was discovered in the Mediterranean region and south-east Asia (from east of Morroco and Portugal all the way to Pakistan).

These include arugula, basil, chives, coriander, cumin, dill and fennel ( Foeniculum vulgare), aromatic, which grows wild in just about every corner of Bermuda but is not at all gathered for commercial reasons.

The family has many edible species (carrot, parsnip, celery, dill) and many that are poisonous [poison hemlock, spotted water hemlock (see the Archive), water parsnip].

In the vegetable garden, onions, chives, dill, basil and thyme are rarely bothered. Plant marigolds and nasturtiums throughout the garden, as well.

Group a number of tubs in one corner with tall borage, fennel, dill or angelica at the back.
