This plant was formerly known as Dipladenia splendens and it is sometimes sold under that name. This name is now considered a synonym and is no longer correct. A popular hybrid often offered by retailers is Mandevilla x amoena 'Alice du Pont'.

Known for its showy flowers, the genus Mandevilla includes plants that were formerly called Dipladenia. There are about 100 species of this tropical American woody vine. Most species overwinter only in the tropical South.

Description:
Mandevilla is a strong-growing vine that thrives in warm weather, flowering from mid-Summer until frost. Some sources give it the alternative scientific name of Dipladenia x amoena.

Some nurserymen want to call them by their older name, Dipladenia, because they are so different. These new ones are very compact and flower much more heavily.
