Usually called staghorn or elkhorn ferns, they are characterized by large, flattened bifurcate or trifurcate fronds that seem to erupt from their bases in all directions.

The Staghorn and Elkhorn Ferns bear large and spectagular fronds, usually divided at their ends into antler-like lobes. Staghorn Fern is one of the more unusual and challenging house plants. The most unfern-like of all ferns.

In 2002 I planted a small start of a Dwarf Blue Hyssop in a harsh sun-garden under an elkhorn sumac.

grande, is sometimes called the elkhorn fern. This plant features very large, solid fronds up to 5 feet in length. Additionally, there are several collectors' species available, such as P. willinckii and P. superbum.
