The best trees in this important group are the English Elm and the American Elm. What we should avoid are some hybrids and varieties of these. They have many names, and some of them I have never noticed as making good trees.
Hangman's Elm, or simply "The Hanging Tree", is an English Elm located in New York City, over 300 years old. Traitors are said to have been hanged at this location during the American Revolutionary War.
This is a rare and choice yellow-leaved variant. Like the American Elm it is susceptible to Dutch Elm disease. Closely related to the English Elm.
